About Me – Dressed by DD
I am a textile artist with a deep passion for working with linen, a fabric that embodies simplicity, strength, and timeless elegance. For me, every piece of linen is more than just material—it is a canvas with its own unique features and attributes, waiting to be transformed into something extraordinary. I design each creation by listening to the fabric, allowing its texture and character to guide the process.
My favorite techniques are rooted in the ancient and soulful art of indigo. I work with methods such as block printing, hand painting with indigo resist, and katazome, a traditional Japanese stencil dyeing technique. Each item I create is a harmonious blend of two or more techniques, often incorporating my own hand stitching, hand-carved prints, or screen prints. No two pieces are ever alike—every creation tells its own story, carrying the marks of craftsmanship and individuality.
Philosophy Behind My Work
My work is inspired by three guiding principles:
-
Ikigai
– the Japanese concept of finding purpose and joy in what you do. Creating textiles is my ikigai; it is where my passion, skill, and love for beauty converge.
-
Wabi-Sabi
– the appreciation of imperfection and impermanence. Linen, with its natural wrinkles and evolving texture, reflects this philosophy perfectly. Each piece embraces the beauty of being unique and imperfect.
-
Ganbatte
– the spirit of perseverance and doing your best. Every stitch, every carved block, and every indigo bath is a testament to dedication and care.
Why Linen and Indigo?
Linen is one of the oldest and most sustainable fabrics known to humanity. It is breathable, durable, and becomes softer and more beautiful with time. Wearing linen is not just a choice of comfort—it is a connection to nature and a celebration of slow living.
Indigo, often called “blue gold,” is an ancient dye that has traveled through cultures and centuries. Its deep, rich hues evoke calmness and strength. Working with indigo is a meditative process, and each shade tells a story of tradition and artistry.
At Dressed by DD, every garment is a piece of art—a fusion of heritage techniques and contemporary design. When you wear one of my creations, you are not just wearing clothing; you are carrying a narrative of craftsmanship, philosophy, and timeless beauty.
